High-Low: 6 Bronzers to instantly brighten up your skin

Yes, it has been awhile. I know I have not blogged since last month, but like any humble procrastinator I have a good reason. Really, I do and you will have to wait to find out why I was MIA.  In the meantime let’s get back to blogging. In this new feature, High-Low, I will be profiling the best high-low options for items I believe are the best buys for your money. Whether you’re looking to spend a lot or a little (which doesn’t necessarily mean its not as good because its cheaper), I hope these posts will provide insight on your next purchase.

Right now, I am currently passionate about bronzers. I have always loved the way they make you look and feel. From the way it shimmers to the added glow it gives your skin. It has become my first beauty choice to sweep on when I don’t have a lot of time to get done up (next to mascara).

On Trend: Black and White Spring Outerwear

bwspringcoatsEvery spring I always have the same dilemma: what kind of outerwear should I wear? Living in Toronto, the response is never the same and for those who live in Canada or somewhere with similar weather patterns will agree that Mother Nature hasn’t exactly been Ms. Sunshine so far this year. But when she finally lets the spring weather come upon us, I want a spring jacket or coat that is fresh, clean and goes with the majority of my wardrobe. Yes, color is great, I am the first one to admit that, but there is something about a crisp white or a bold pattern topper featuring the two popular shades to really start of your spring season in style.

1. TOPSHOP Side Split Throw on Coat
I’m 5″2, so extremely long coats are not in my fashion vocabulary, however, I this one from TOPSHOP is the perfect inspiration to hopefully guide me to find a straight, long tailored beauty suitable for a petite frame.

2.ZARA Linen Jacket with Black Piping
Broaden your fashion horizon with a crop or short length jacket for warmer spring days or when you want to give a casual outfit a boost.

3.GUESS Lily Jacket
What really draws me to this faux leather jacket from GUESS is the flirty yet sophisticated perforated detailing and the peplum hem, which by the way, is still a great trend to try this season (just don’t go overboard).

4.FOREVER 21 Wild Thing Leopard Trench Coat
No matter what season it is, any animal print is acceptable. However, I’ve always been partial to leopard, and whether its tan and gold, or black and white like this beauty a print coat adds unique distinction to your entire outfit.

Save, Spend or Splurge: Pink Purses

There is something about the color pink. Whether you’re a girl, or yes, even a boy, the sweet, bright hue (no matter what shade it is) is a hit, especially in the fashion industry. I’ve always had a preference for pink, right down to color coordinating my undergarments for my entire grade 7 year. However, my style has matured and although pink lace underwear is nice, I’d rather have a statement piece that everyone can see, not only me. Each of these purses are bold, feminine and will add two times the color to a regular everyday outfit.

Save: TOPSHOP Turnlock Satchel
Reason to love: Perfect for casual and weekend outfits, this pink satchel will make the right color statement with its strap details and looks-more-expensive-than-it-really is turnlock clasp closure.

Spend: Cambridge Satchel Company 11″ Satchel from Piperlime
Reason to love: If the simple yet sophisticated edge stitching doesn’t get you, then I have to ask yourself: why not? Besides the soft pink hue, which reminds me of why I love being a girly girl, this messenger style bag is a good investment starting piece for the color cautious.

Save: Alexander Wang Rockie Duffel Bag
Reason to love: In a perfect world, this bag would be on my arm morning, noon and night and perfectly coordinate with every outfit I own (wait, I think it might actually do that…). The standout features include its ample room for undercover bag ladies (own it) and its row of studs on the bottom .

How We Wear: Trendy Tights

I can remember watching one of the first episodes of Gossip Girl and looking at Blair Waldorf’s (played by Leighton Meester) coloured tights and thinking they were the best thing in the world. I just had to have my own pair. From then on I always made it my mission to collect fashion-worthy hosiery and my mom can tell you that most of my money from my part-time job – which should have been used to help pay off uni– was actually going to this underestimated accessory. I’m ready to start collecting again and since it is winter and the need for tights is necessary with the cold temperatures, these few chosen styles are a great variety and allow me to wear different trends every day of the week.

Trend Watch: Beautiful Metallic

If I had to choose between glitter, sequins and metallic, I would ultimately choose metallic. Sure, I love colorful, sparkly things just as much as the next girl (I’m also seriously obsessed with pink yet red is my favourite colour), but there is something about shimmering gold, silver and bronze to take an average outfit up a notch. This past Sunday the Grammy’s proved the trend isn’t just for the festive season and can be tastefully worn in the winter transitioning into spring by adding the right pieces to your wardrobe.

January Celebrity Style Muse: Kate Middleton

It’s the first Celebrity Style Muse of 2014 and I can think of no one better than Kate Middleton, a.k.a Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, to start off a year of fashion inspiration! My mom will tell you that ever since Kate entered the my radar, I have been appropriately obsessed with everything about her – her humbleness, her poise and of course, her style. I’ve been waiting since last year to profile her style and since it is January and she is a Capricorn, it is win-win situation!

It was definitely hard to choose just one outfit I adore of the Duchess, as she countlessly proves she is fashion chameleon with her ability to mix high and low pieces, recycle clothing items and always cater her looks to her environment – something I imagine is especially hard to do when you want to be yourself, while upholding a royal title (although I’m all for trying to out, hint Prince Harry if you’re reading this). So, I choose three outfits: casual, maternity and glamorous. And you know what? So far she is the only celebrity (or royal celebrity) where the outfits are appropriate to wear no matter size, height or age. Now that’s a real fashion muse in my opinion.

Two Thousand Fourteen Inspiration: New Year, New Goals

Happy New Year!

We’re already seven days into the New Year and I still feel pumped up and excited about the great things to come in the upcoming year! For instance, I plan on blogging a lot more beauty and lifestyle content and hopefully even doing some video tutorials. My mantra for this year (and every year prior, actually): When you’re happy, anything is possible! I’m definitely focusing on the little things that make me happy, so I have compiled items that will keep me on the same track as my mantra. I would love to know what your goals and/or mantras are for the New Year.

Inner Thoughts
Since I love to write I thought it would be valuable to start writing a journal again. I used to have a journal all the time from the wee age of six to my adolescent years and it’s really one of the few things that separates me from the physical world, if only for a few moments and helps me become more connected with my thoughts.

Putting my best face forwards

Looking great is just as important as feeling great and ultimately the two go hand-in-hand. Although I’m a HUGE beauty junkie (like, really, it’s a problem), I’m relying on a few staple products to help me look and feel great each and every day. (P.S I have officially become an eyeliner hoarder – I just can’t have enough!)

Seeing Green
I’ve always ate a healthy diet (not counting my off-days), but there is nothing wrong with trying to eat MORE healthy. I plan on achieving this by learning to cook new meals, eating less processed foods and juicing at least once a week.

Make it till you make it
I’m on a mission to really establish myself as writer and journalist and make that my career. Period. I’m a 100% moving forward and I plan on doing it in style, of course.
